5 Ways to Take Action for Eating Disorders Awareness Week

With an estimated one million Canadians struggling with Eating Disorders, we simply can’t afford to wait. That’s the theme this year for Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW), which runs annually from February 1-7. EDAW urges Canadians to raise awareness about the causes, prevalence and impact of Eating Disorders.

Eating Disorders affect people of all genders, sexual orientations, ages, socioeconomic status, abilities, and ethnicities. It is time to take action. Together we can inspire and generate support in so many ways. These include more research, better treatment options, enhanced training, greater prevention efforts, caregiver support and education to end stigma.

Wondering what you can do this EDAW to make a difference? Here are five ways to take action:

1. #ShowUsYourPurple

Whether it’s lighting up a landmark in your community, or simply choosing purple clothes this week, people from coast-to-coast are showing their purple in support of EDAW. Show off your purple on social media with the hashtag #ShowUsYourPurple.

2. Follow the conversation

Use the hashtag #EDAW2019 Share, repost, or retweet the downloadable graphics, or create a custom social media post sharing something meaningful for you.

3. Host or attend an event Local events are being organized by advocates across the country. Find out what’s happening in your community.

4. Donate to an ED organization
