Aileen McGinty is an At-Large member of the Board. She lives in Nova Scotia where she works as the Crown Attorney with the Dartmouth Wellness Court.
Aileen has worked in both the legal and mental health fields, her chosen careers having been influenced by her own experiences of mental ill-health. As well as having qualified as a lawyer in both Scotland and Canada, she is also qualified in psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society.
Over the past twenty years Aileen has been involved in mental health law and policy development having worked with both governmental and non-governmental organizations in her career.
She was one of the Scottish representatives at the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership in Brisbane, Australia in 2009 and one the Canadian representatives at the same Initiative in 2019 when it was held in Washington DC.
In the past Aileen has sat on the Boards of CMHA Nova Scotia, IWK Hospital Research & Ethics Board, Health Minds Co-operative (NS) and on the Mental Health and Law Advisory Committee of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
Aileen is passionate about mental health, regularly writing about mental health issues and speaking at events worldwide.
