Policy and Research
Home » What we do » Policy and Research
The Research and Policy team at CMHA National leads CMHA’s advocacy efforts at the federal level, guided by CMHA’s experience delivering programs and services in community, and the perspective of people with lived experience. We work to ensure that people in Canada can get the mental health and substance use health care they need, when and where they need it. Our advocacy work is supported by strong evidence. We do research and write statements, briefs and fact sheets to provide clear, practical recommendations to government and keep the public informed.
Mental health and addiction care is on the line. Don’t let it slip away.
In 2017, the federal government committed $5 billion over 10 years to mental health and addiction care. That funding is scheduled to end on 31 March 2027. This will leave a gap in funding that currently supports critical services across Canada, which the provinces will have to cover.
Federal advocacy
Budget submissions, election platforms, expert testimony and advocacy highlights. Our CMHA team advocates and respondes to the Federal government on issues of funding and policy.
Research
CMHA-led research and studies from The State of Mental Health Report to our analysis of the current federal funding and mental health service delivery.
Policy statements, briefs and factsheets
