Leave a Legacy

Your Compassion Can Shape the Future of Mental Health Care in Canada.

A legacy gift is more than a financial contribution — it’s a lasting reflection of your values, your care for others, and your belief that everyone deserves to feel well and can get care and support when they need it most.

When you plan a transformative gift or include CMHA National in your Will, you help build a Canada where mental health is valued, supported, and protected for generations to come.

Why Leave a Legacy Gift

Mental health affects us all — our families, our workplaces, and our communities. But too many Canadians struggle to access care or face stigma when they reach out for help.

By leaving a gift in your Will to CMHA National, you help ensure that compassionate support, education, and advocacy continue for decades to come. Your legacy will help:

Icon

Fight for mental health as a human right, so future generations are assured that their care and wellbeing is covered.

Icon

Change minds about mental health and mental illness, to create a society where wellness, security, compassion and acceptance are the default for all.

Icon

Protect and promote good mental health through mental health literacy, education and awareness, so all people in Canada grow up with the confidence that they're cared for.

Icon

Strengthen a national network of providers working to ensure that there's always someone there to care, in communities from coast to coast to coast.

Stories of Impact

A Legacy of Hope

Every legacy — no matter its size — is an investment in hope, recovery, and belonging. It’s a way to continue caring for others long after your lifetime.

I believe that leaving a legacy to CMHA National to support mental health for all is like making a gift to my family’s and my community’s future. This makes sure there’s always a warm and supportive place for them, even when I’m not here.

Join the Foster Legacy Society

CMHA helps Canadians foster, strengthen, protect, and promote their mental health today and for the future. When you join CMHA’s Foster Legacy Society, you leave a legacy of care and compassion for future generations and create lasting change.

The Foster Legacy Society is a collective of caring individuals inspired by a very special member. As a registered nurse, Patricia Anne Foster spent her life caring for others. When she passed away in 2019, she left the entire proceeds of her estate to support CMHA’s fight for mental health as a human right. Patricia’s legacy of care lives on through CMHA, supporting the mental health and well-being of Canadians.

When you join CMHA’s Foster Legacy Society, you ensure that Canadians always have access to the mental health care they need, whatever the future brings.

Foster Legacy Society members:

  • Belong to a community of Canadians caring for the future
  • Receive invitations to special events
  • Receive CMHA National's Annual Impact Report
  • Are listed in CMHA National's Annual Impact Report
  • Receive ongoing information about mental health in Canada
