Aileen McGinty is a board member of CMHA Nova Scotia. Her personal experience with mental health issues has shaped her work and life in general. Aileen currently works as a lawyer with Weldon McInnis in Dartmouth, NS, working in general practice but with a particular interest in health law. She is also qualified to post-graduate level in psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society. In addition, Aileen is a qualified music therapist (MTA). She has a strong background in mental health policy and development having worked for a variety of governmental and non-governmental organizations during the past 15 years. In 2009, she was one of the Scottish representatives at the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership in Brisbane, Australia.
Currently, as well as sitting on the boards of CMHA National and Nova Scotia, Aileen sits on the Board of the IWK Health Centre Research and Ethics Board and as a panel chair on the Review Board of the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act (Nova Scotia). She is also a former member of the Board of Healthy Minds Co-operative in Halifax and the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Mental and Law Advisory Committee.
