Edna Turpin has served as Past President, Vice President, Interim Executive Director and member of the Board with the CMHA Newfoundland in addition to serving as a member of the National Board. With a doctorate in educational psychology, Edna has concentrated on mental health care for the past 30 years. Her primary focus has been on mental health and wellness and alternative techniques to be used in counselling therapies.
Provincially, Edna has been responsible for introducing the various into the K-12 school system including the Assistant Superintendents of Special Services, Education Psychologists, Educational Therapists (for children with emotional issues), Student Assistants and Speech Pathologists. In addition, she developed and implemented the Department of Education’s first policies on Special Education, Student Support Services, Child Abuse, AIDS Education, and alternative programs for at-risk students.
